Common Types of Range Hoods We Repair

There are a variety of vent hood types. Using a mechanical fan and filtration, some hoods push air outside your home, while others merely filter and recirculate it. No matter what type you have, Mr. Appliance is always ready to perform expert range hood repair service for you.

  • Ducted. These vent hoods exhaust air to the outside of your home.
  • Non-Ducted or Recirculated. These hoods recirculate air after filtering it.
  • Under-Cabinet. Typically non-ducted, these vent hoods have replaceable filters.
  • Wall-Mounted Chimney. These are installed against the wall and look like a home chimney.
  • Ceiling-Mounted Chimney. Also called island hoods, these are typically suspended above cooking islands.
  • Custom Built-In. These blend in with cabinetry and have ventilation built into the wall

We commonly service the brands Cavaliere, Broan, and Kobe, but our service professionals have experience with a large number of other brands as well. Not only will we repair it correctly the first time; we’ll also provide upfront pricing, an explanation of the work we recommend, and excellent customer service.

Issues Covered by Our Range Hood Repair Service

If you’re experiencing any of these issues, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment for exhaust hood repair and service.

  • Vent hood is not clearing smoke. In non-ducted systems, this is often due to an old filter that needs to be replaced. In ducted systems, there could be numerous issues preventing exhaust from being properly evacuated. Whatever it is, we can diagnose and fix it!
  • Air is not venting outside. This is typically caused by a broken fan blade, kitchen exhaust fan motor, or blower motor that has stopped working. There also may be something stuck in the blower motor. We offer range hood fan repair and range hood motor repair to get things moving again.
  • The motor hums or is loud. This is most often the result of a defective exhaust fan motor in need of replacement. It may also be due to something caught in or rubbing against the blower wheel housing or fan blade. Replacing a damaged or worn-out range hood motor is the key to getting things quiet again.
  • The lights aren't working. The vent hood repair may be as simple as replacing a burnt-out bulb. Or the problem could be a defective light assembly, light socket, switch, or main control board. If the bulb isn’t the issue, our experts can get to the bottom of this.
  • The fan and light aren't working. This may be due to a defective control board, defective switch, or blown thermal fuse. We offer everything from range hood switch repair to control board replacement to get your system running again.
  • The keypad doesn’t work. This is most often caused by a defective user interface or control board. When you call Mr. Appliance, we can quickly diagnose the issue and help you determine the proper range hood repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a range hood need a dedicated circuit?

No, as long as you keep an eye on your amperage use. Range hoods draw between five and seven amps, so make sure any vent hoods that need to be plugged in are connected to a circuit with less powerful appliances and the spare amperage to keep it running.

Can you use a flexible duct for a range hood?

No. Flexible duct material is not sturdy enough to do the job and is difficult to clean and maintain. A rigid duct made of stainless steel is your best choice for range hood duct ventilation. Your ductwork also needs to be appropriately sized for your unit: four-inch duct for 400 CFM or below, up to ten-inch for 1200 CFM or higher.

How do I know if my range hood is ductless?

If you can’t visibly see ductwork in your kitchen, your vent hood is likely ductless and recirculating the air in your kitchen. Double-check outside for a vent on the outer wall, and see if your hood came with filters or a recirculating kit, which comes with ductless setups.
