  • Good washing and maintenance practices can help your machine last much longer. Here are some washer care tips.

    • Don't use extra detergent. Extra detergent can leave soapy residue on your clothes and lower your machine’s efficiency. It will have to work harder to get rid of the extra suds. Over time, this overwork can damage your washer's pump and motor.
    • Clean your washing machine regularly. For front-loading washers, run an empty cycle with two cups of baking soda once per month. Be sure to run your washer on its hottest and longest setting. Then, run another empty cycle on its hottest and longest setting with two cups of white vinegar.
    • Leave the doors open after every wash cycle. This lets the machine dry out to discourage mold and mildew growth.

  • The most important thing you can do for your dryer is schedule a dryer vent cleaning service. Lint is flammable, and your dryer vent screen only collects about 25% of the lint from your drying clothes—the rest lodges in your dryer vent, creating a fire hazard. A clogged vent will also cause your dryer to work harder, making it less efficient and more prone to breakdowns. It’s wise to have your dryer vent cleaned at least once every 3 to 12 months.
