Appliance Care and Maintenance Tips from Mr. Appliance of Aurora
Curious to know how you can help your appliances last? Taking care of them and maintaining them every so often can help improve their life expectancy. Here are some tips from our Aurora appliance repair experts.
Caring for Your Refrigerator
Change Your Water Filter
If your fridge has a water and/or ice dispenser, we recommend changing your water filter every 6 months. Doing so will help keep your water clean and help prevent deposit and sediment build-up in your fridge's pipes. You should be able to locate your water filter by checking your owner's manual or by contacting the manufacturer.
Caring for Your Dryer
Clean the lint screen every time you do a load. Wipe down the inside of your dryer monthly with a damp cloth dipped in soapy water. Make sure your dryer is balanced on level flooring. Check the dryer’s exhaust so that air flows freely from the vent.
Caring for Your Dishwasher
Clean Your Drain Filter
Your drain filter is the cylindrical-shaped piece that lies at the bottom of most dishwashers. Basically, this catches large chunks of food and debris from going down the drain. Over time, your drain filter can get clogged so it's important to clean out that food and debris. You can also run the filter under some warm water. We recommend checking your drain filter once a week.
Clean the Spray Arm Holes
Your dishwasher's spray arms spray out the water which cleans your dishes. If you have hard water, sediment can collect in the spray arm holes which impact your dishwasher's performance. Check these periodically and use a toothpick or safety pin to clean out the deposit buildup.
Troubleshooting an Appliance
First, make sure that the power cable is working properly and plugged in-no frayed wires should be sticking out, and breaks or kinks could cause the cable to malfunction. Clean any filters the appliance has on a regular basis. Check for leaks under the appliance (such as for residential refrigerators and washing machines), and look for puddles on the floor.
Neighborly®
Neighborly is the parent company of Mr. Appliance. It’s just one of many home maintenance solutions available to you. At Neighborly, we are committed to being there for all your home services needs.
