Ever wish you could squeeze just a few more pieces into your dishwasher? Who wants to load and unload more times than absolutely necessary? Your friends at Mr. Appliance have developed a few tricks and tips that can you save time and money.
Start Clean
If your dishwasher has not been cleaned recently, it won’t run efficiently. Get a fresh start by running it through the rinse cycle while empty. This will also mean cleaner dishes, and who doesn’t love that?
Choosing Your Detergent
A trip down the cleaning products aisle may be overwhelming – so many options! While it might be tempting to choose a value-sized liquid detergent, we recommend powder or tablet detergent. Even if its cost is slightly higher, you’ll be left with less gunk stuck on dishes, which means less rewashing.
Flatware and Pan Placement
While trying to maximize each dishwasher load’s space, following these two rules will help you fit more, and ensure all pieces end up clean.
- While loading pans, be sure to test spray arms’ ability to spin without hitting any handles or edges. This will prevent damage to your machine.
- When placing plates, stack all similarly sized plates together, descending in size as you near the center of the machine. This will allow water jets to better reach each dish.
Silverware Time-Saver
If you are using a machine with a horizontal basket for silverware, use our easy tip to save loads of time. Placing each type of dirty utensil into its own basket speeds up the unloading process. Simply grab all the clean spoons, forks or knives at one time and put each into their specific storage drawer slot or container. From now on, you can skip wasted time spent sorting flatware.
