Load balance issues: Top-loading washing machines need the load to be relatively balanced within the basket. If your machine refuses to operate because of an unbalanced load, simply redistribute the load more evenly.
Water not draining: This can be caused by an installation issue or a drain issue. The error code tends to pop up when the washer takes more than eight minutes to drain.
Washer door can’t be locked: A washer door that won’t lock is usually caused by an object stuck in the door lock. Check the door for any small items or lint buildup. Removing any obstructions will typically fix this issue.

Error Codes for Top-Loading Maytag Washing Machines

Lid	Lid left open	Close the lid to clear the code.
Ofb	Unbalanced load	If the washer has stopped, open the washer, evenly redistribute the load, and then close the lid and restart the cycle.
OL	Oversized load	If the washer has stopped, remove several items from the basket and restart the cycle.
PF	Power failure	Touch and hold Start to restart the washer cycle after it was interrupted by a power failure. Press Power if you only need to clear the code.
Sud	Excessive suds	Ensure you used the correct detergent. Open the lid and allow the water to drain, then manually remove the excess suds.

F8 E2	Dispenser system issue	Select models only. Ensure the detergent drawer or cartridge is not clogged with detergent.
F9 E1	Excessive drain time	Make sure the drain hose is not clogged or kinked.
