So, spinach gave Popeye his super powers. What’s the keeper to your powers? If we asked 83 percent of adults in the U.S. before sunrise on any given day, the answer would unequivocally be a steamy, hot cup o’ Joe.

But why do so many have such a strong affinity to their morning java? Besides the delightfully alluring, almost spellbinding aroma and the obvious caffeine boost, did you know that there are actual health benefits from drinking a little java juice?

It’s no wonder there’s a coffee shop at every street corner these days. But with 14 million coffee makers sold in the U.S. each year, there are still a whole lot of folks brewing morning goodness right in their own kitchen. So, if you’re an at home, slipper wearin’, dog pettin’, paper readin’ kind of coffee drinker your friends at Mr. Appliance have a few recipes for you to give a try.

Your Coffee of Choice
A Can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
Water

  • Brew 12 cups of your coffee of choice.
  • Pour sweetened condensed milk into a glass jug. Start with half a can to 12 cups of brewed coffee and then add additional according to your tastes.
  • Pour brewed coffee into the glass jug.
  • Put lid on jug - to make sure you don't spew hot coffee all over your kitchen, go ahead and cover with a towel just in case.
  • Shake the jug like crazy.
  • Cool to room temperature.
  • Stick it in the fridge.
  • Enjoy!

½ cup milk
1 tablespoon pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon light brown sugar, packed
¼ teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 to 2 shots of espresso or 1 cup of hot brewed strong coffee
Optional: sugar, to taste
Optional: whipped cream
Optional: nutmeg, to garnish

STOVE TOP Directions

  • In a saucepan whisk together milk, pumpkin puree and light brown sugar.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until hot and steamy.
  • Remove from heat, whisk in the pumpkin-pie spice and the vanilla.
  • Continue to whisk until frothy.
  • Pour into 2 coffee mugs about half way up and then add in the espresso or coffee.
  • Add sugar to taste.
  • Garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg.

MICROWAVE Directions

  • Pour milk, pumpkin puree, brown sugar, pumpkin-pie spice and vanilla into a microwave-safe bowl.
  • Cook for 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds or until the milk starts to rise up and is frothy.
  • Pour into mug and add coffee.
  • Garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg.
