From fast reaction times on the drag strip to quickly responding to a broken appliance, Charlie Goff, owner of Mr. Appliance® of Central Texas, has taken the values he applies to his appliance repair business to the street to teach his son to be the best sportsman.

“I operate my business under the Code of Values, where respect, integrity and customer satisfaction are the forefront to my business,” Goff said. “Those same values I have taught my son, both on and off the race track.”

Recently, Charlie’s son, CJ Goff, 11, competed in the Last Points Race of the Year at the Temple Academy Raceway in Temple, Texas on Sunday, Sept. 18. With Mr. Appliance of Central Texas’s proud orange and blue supporting the youth drag racer, CJ was able to overcome his opponent in the final round of elimination to take the win!

CJ competes in bracket racing, which is a form of drag racing that measures the consistency of the performance of the driver and the car. This type of racing focuses on shifting ability, reaction time and being able to control the car, instead of only measuring speed.

The award for winning a race consists of different amounts of money and for several racers, like CJ, they use their winnings to help fund the maintenance for their racecar. Not only will CJ’s car benefit from his speed racer ability, but so will his local church. CJ always donates 15 percent of his winnings to his church as a way to give back to the community that gives him so much.

“Winning is great, but you can’t get upset when you lose. You have to learn from it, let it go and get focused for the next time out,” Goff said. “That’s an important life lesson that I teach my son and that I use in my business and on the track.”

Franchise Industry Leader Urges Congress To Focus On Small Business As Part of Recovery

Charlie Goff, owner of Mr. Appliance of Central Texas met with members of the Texas congressional delegation about how a return to pro-growth policies in Washington is critical to job creation by franchise small business owners during the International Franchise Association (IFA) 12th Annual Public Affairs Conference held in Washington Sept. 13-14.

Goff joined over 500 franchise leaders from around the country in Washington to urge Congress to lobby for increasing small business access to credit by asking lawmakers to support a strong Small Business Administration (SBA) 7(a) loan program, ensuring small businesses have long-term tax certainty, and for repeal of onerous provisions in the health care law.

“We urged congressional leaders to pass provisions to make more credit available to small businesses and to remove the onerous and costly provisions in the health care law, such as the employer mandate and health insurance tax,” Goff said.“Credit access has a direct correlation on job creation in franchising, as studies show for every $1 million in lending to franchises creates 40 new jobs.”

Goff highlighted the importance of franchising to the U.S. economy during meetings with members of Congress. According to a study conducted for the IFA Educational Foundation by PwC on the economic impact of franchising, over 825,000 franchise establishments across 300 business lines provide for nearly 18 million jobs and generate over $2.1 trillion to the U.S. economy,” Goff said.

“As members work to strengthen and renew our economy, they should remember that franchising counts in local communities all across the country,” Goff said. With available credit and pro-growth regulatory policies, franchise businesses can be a solution to job creation and put our country on the road to economic recovery.”

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Unless It's Your Dishwasher!

By Lillyan Baker

Dinnertime is more than sitting down for a quiet meal with your family. Once the cooking and dining is finished, you still have to pre-rinse, load, wash and sometimes rewash your dishes. Why not make your dishwasher work for you and give yourself a relationship with your family, not your dishwasher?

“Most people make dishwashing into a much larger job than it should be,” said Doug Rogers, President of Mr. Appliance® Corp. “The dishwasher should make your life easier, if you use it correctly.”

Follow these easy tips from Mr. Appliance to keep that sparkle in your dishes:

  • Eliminate a step from your cleaning process- no more pre-rinse! Dishwasher detergent is dependent on food particles to do its job. By having no food to attack, it usually moves to glassware, leaving your dishes cloudy with permanent etching damage.
  • To get cleaner dishes, make sure your hot water heater is set between 120 and 125 degrees. The hot water will help break down stuck-on food particles and prevent clogs.
  • Choose the correct cycle. Use short cycles and save the normal cycles for your dirtiest dishes. Avoid using the “rinse hold” setting, since it uses three to seven gallons of hot water for each use.
  • It’s better to use granular soap than gel soap – and more is not merrier. Overloading on soap won’t get your dishes any cleaner, and it will cause buildup inside the unit that can damage it over time. Use the right detergent and use it the right way.
  • Once a month run the dishwasher empty with a cup of white vinegar to leave your dishwasher smelling clean and to eliminate food residue buildup, which can cause clogs and strain.

Incorporate these tips to spend less time with your dishwasher and more time with your family. This is one break-up that’s easy to do and good for the environment, too. Don’t forget to have your dishwasher inspected annually by an expert to keep it running strong for years to come.
